Check the BBB, Yelp, ogle and FB. ALL have multiple bad reviews. Their BBB score is only 2.3. I wished I’d checked beforehand!

I would leave a zero if I could. This company is awful! two different crews came with two different trucks to move us. The first crew broke glassware and an oak chair, did not take down and being a painting they were supposed to and complained constantly about having to move heavy items. My husband left 20 minutes after them and they did not arrive until a half hour AFTER he got to the new house. I must point out they charge by the hour.

The second crew also did not bring the painting. My husband had to leave the house to come to the new house for the first crew, so he asked them to call him before they left so he could verify they had everything. He did not hear from them so he attempted to call them. Twice. They did not answer. Twenty minutes later they called him as they were on the highway. As a result, a 20 ft ladder was also not brought. When they arrived they were to put together a large desk they had dismantled to load. After unloading they told my husband they were done and went to leave. He saw that the desk had not been reassembled so he ran out to the moving truck before they drove away. They said they were tired and would come the following morning to assemble the desk, and additionally would bring both the painting and the ladder.

That night when we were organizing boxes (they also put only about a third of the boxes in the rooms they were labelled to go to) we noticed that a gargoyle statue that sits on our deck was missing. This is an authentic statue and had been shipped to my husband at great expense from a friend of his as a gift. we contacted the owner of the company the next morning after hearing nothing from the crew and again getting no answer when we attempted to call. We outlined everything that had happened and asked about the missing gargoyle.

The owner basically blamed everything on us, telling us that we had not packed correctly. We purchased new moving boxes and totes and taped and labelled everything, save one box that we forgot to tape the bottom of. The owner further said we should have taken the painting down and wrapped it. It's is a 5ft x 5ft painting that the crew had agreed to take down and transport. He also told us that we should have taken the ladder ourselves, and that they are paid by the hour and have no contract with us and are therefore not responsible for breakage, damage, or missing items. We again asked about the gargoyle and were again not told where it is. We were, however, told by the company owner that if the gargoyle was broken that it was our fault because we did not box it. It is a statue. A large one. It will not fit in a moving box. In the past movers have wrapped in blankets and it has arrived safely. We still have no idea where the gargoyle is or what happened to it.

The owner was talking over me and very argumentative. I was so furious I hung up on him. He then called my husband and did a repeat performance. My husband also hung up on him.

In short....shoddy movers, job not complete, very valuable and sentimental item missing, and a huge bill. These guys literally took the money and ran.

Please people, DO NOT hire this company.

Damaged property and the way I was treated by upper management.

On top of the damage I had boxes left out on my patio (I gave permission for a few not 30+ boxes). I had boxes that I labelled not in the right rooms. I had been told I wasn't there to give them instruction when I was the one who let them in I have witnesses
I contacted upper management and Instead of getting on the phone with me and saying "you know I totally understand that's not how we train or employees, let's see what we can do, etc" she asks me what happened and then starts interrogating me on everything except the damage
She told me it wasn't my money because it was funded by the ministry, which is not true. I got the cheque in MY name, and deposited it into MY bank account and paid them directly MYSELF. She asked me where the money to pay someone to finish the job came from because it wasn't from the ministry Three times I had to correct her as she argued with me over the fact that my move was funded so it wasn't my own money out of my pocket but the money I paid for help after they left was out of my own pocket. It doesn't matter where the money came from, I paid you for a service and I expected the service to be done appropriately
The rest of our conversation was similar. She claimed she called the ministry and when I called them they told me that they are not allowed to release information to her, and wouldnt. They advised me that she has to refund me the money for MY property. She kept arguing with me over the situation and kept saying well it wasn't her movers I explained it has to be because I did NOT damage my own stuff and I expect that they replace my desk. She informed me that the receipt that I signed said they would only cover $0.65 for every pound of shipping weight up to maximum of $100 per item. I told her I requested my receipt multiple times and didn't get it and that the movers didn't leave it. She said "well they don't do that you have to be there". I said okay..but I don't have it still. Then she argued with me about that making everything so much bigger than it should have been. I told her she needed to email it to me which she did 4 days later. A lot of it was her arguing with me and placing blame off of them and by the end of the conversation I was upset and walked away feeling degraded, ashamed, frustrated and angry. I felt like she was treating me poorly because it was a flat rate so they didn't want to refund me properly because they wanted the money. I felt discriminated against because I had to ask the ministry for help. She repeatedly told me that it wasn't my money and they specifically were funding GoodPlace when I was in fact told twice that once I received that money it was up to me to choose my company. I feel like she was being incredibly condescending to me.
She called me back today and all they will do is $50. She said it looks like a knife was used to gouge out my desk and I said well I sure didn't do that myself. She said that I didn't see the movers moving it so therefore I can not say they damaged it. I explained that I don't know how it happened but what I DO know is that it was in perfect condition upon leaving my apartment in Abbotsford and it was wrecked when I found it in my suite in Kamloops. She said that basically I can't prove it and her movers say they didn't do anything to it so that's that. She didn't outright blame me for the damage to my own stuff but she was obviously playing her words so she didn't outright say it. At the end of our phone conversation she tells me she will refund $50 and I said "well fine but I'm still going to write a review" and she said "that's fine".

I am extremely upset at the way I was treated and her lack of professionalism. They told me they have insurance to cover damages and then I got the run around for it. She could have been courteous towards me and I would have been frustrated but understood. Her lack of empathy and consideration is the reason that I am writing this review on top of my possessions being damaged and not replaced.

Official company response

We want to begin by sincerely apologizing for your negative experience with our company; we strive to present a quality service for our customers. We apologize you felt as if you were interrogated when we were asking about your experience and what occurred, but management was trying to figure out what happened from both ends and there was no intention for interrogation.

Our company has a policy where the customer needs to be present for the move to direct the staff as to where things should be placed and to hand off the receipt after the job is complete. At that point, if things were placed where they shouldn’t be it can be corrected and we do a walk through to ensure that there are no damages and avoid situations like this.

Moreover, the concern was the size of your suite and the number of your belongings would not fit so rather than stacking things upon each other, as they can be fragile you agreed with the crew to place them under your covered patio because you were not present during the majority of the move – which we confirmed after speaking with staff members – it was difficult to gauge how you wanted your belongings placed. So to be safe, they went ahead and placed them under your patio as you instructed them to.

Furthermore, you hired additional movers to assist weeks after the original move to Kamloops. When receiving an email almost a month later and knowing you hired other movers, it was confusing for us as a company to understand where exactly the damage came from.

This review is factually incorrect, as we have recorded our conversations for purposes of quality service.

Good Place Moving strives to ensure that our trucks are packed properly and blanketed, wrapped, and cushioned for safe travels. In light of this, we spoke to all of our staff and have reinforced our procedures on how to pack things and move fragile items to ensure nothing like this will not occur in the future. We built our business on a reputation of solid principles and a strong work ethic for quality service.

Since we were unable to accurately determine that our staff damaged your 2 items because of the long time since your move and the fact you hired other movers we offered $50 as an act of good faith which you accepted and then when on to leave a negative review us anyway.

Move July 2/21

I had Good Place move me from Abbotsford to Kamloops on July 2/21 and they were awesome. The guys were courteous, careful, efficient and wasted no time. They showed up at 7:30 as planned and I was all set up in Kamloops by 4:30 with no damage at either place or to my contents. Thx guys, you were great! Dianne P.

Absolute SHAM

1)Paid $100. to hold a 9AM move time - Movers showed up after 5 PM

2) movers had NO EXPERIENCE MOVING OR PACKING - DAMAGED many items

3)quoted $800. BUT when arrived at new home I was told to pay almost $1300. BEFORE they would unload my belongings and if I would not pay BEFORE they unloaded they would close the truck and leave with my belongings.

4) They did not finish till almost midnight and after they left we had to return to our old place as they DID NOT even pack ALL our belongings. Some belongings left in old home and some even were left in our old buildings elevator.

5) Broken metal bedframe, 4 broken metal shelves, Missing items, broken metal clothing rack and even broke my disabled bath chair which I NEED as I am disabled and can not shower without it.

6)EXTREMELY rude, obnoxious and cruel. Scam artists at every turn. Did all they could to milk money out of us.

Please beware and stay far away from them or you will suffer as we had to.

Owner, very rude and verbally abusive

On Saturday May 10, 2021 Good Place Moving was contracted by my friend to move his 2-bedroom basement apartment from Mission to Abbotsford. My friend has been on permanent disability for 33 years. When 2 guys arrived, they did not seem to know what they were doing. I had worked for a moving company years ago and gave them instructions on how to load my friends entire 2 bedroom, which everything had already been packed. These 2 guys just needed to load a 5-ton truck, which my friend, another guy, and myself helped these 2 guys. Since these 2 guys did not know how to load the truck, a freezer and a bunch of boxes would not fit. My friend then went back today Monday May 10, 2021 to move the rest of his furniture at his cost.

Even though they say that they had been to my friends’ new home in Abbotsford before, they went to the wrong address. When they called my friend wondering where he was, my friend needed to give them the correct address which they already had. Upon arrival at my friend’s new 3rd floor apartment, they demanded payment before unloading. This I knew was wrong. One of the guys called his boss who told them if my friend does not pay before unloading, they were instructed to leave with my friends’ furniture. I told them that this was illegal. The owner then asked to speak with me. He told me the same thing. The owner of Good Place Moving (Ray, I believe. These 2 guys did not know their bosses last name) then came to my friend's new apartment in Abbotsford. He told me that payment needed to be done before unloading or they would leave with my friends’ furniture on their truck and not return. I told the owner that this is unethical making payment before the signed contract had been completed. My friend needed to pay $857 before they would unload his furniture. He then reluctantly paid and received the receipt so that they would not leave with his furniture.

These 2 guys started to unload. After the truck was about 50% unloaded, the owner called and told his 2 guys that time for the move had expired. If his 2 guys were to continue to unload the truck and take into my friends’ apartment, my friend would need to pay another $120, which was the charge per hour. My friend and I asked the 2 guys to finish the contract and move the furniture into the apartment. Their response was that they were students at University of the Fraser Valley and they were only working for 3 months. They said that if they continue to move the furniture into the apartment without being paid $120, they would be fired, which would be detrimental to them being students and they could be kicked out of the University.

The owner came to the address in Abbotsford, and I spoke with him personally. Honestly, the owner was rude, he starting yelling at me, told me to F… off, verbally threatened me, told me that I had caused all the problems. He also called me a racist. In the end, the owner called 2 guys who came and move the heavy furniture into the apartment free of charge. They were like angels. He tried to take advantage of a man who has been on permanent disability for 33 years. This is sick! If I was not there, my friend would have been completed taken advantage of. Who know what would have happened?

Honestly, Good Place Moving should not be allowed to be in business. Their business license should be taken away. These 2 guys even told me that the owner is always rude with customers. The very least that should have is a full refund.
